About Troop 7400
Troop 7400 is a proud member of the Meherrin District of the Heart of Virginia Council (formerly the Robert E. Lee Council) of the Boy Scouts of America.  Our Troop is sponsored by the South Hill Presbyterian Church located at 914 N. Mecklenburg Avenue in South Hill.  Our scouts range in age from 11 to 17 and represent the full spectrum of ranks available to Boy Scouts, including several with Life Rank on their way to Eagle.  We meet on the first and third Wednesdays of each month at South Hill Presbyterian Church7:00 p.m. in the fellowship hall of the Presbyterian Church.

Each year we have 4 or more campouts in addition to a week-long council summer camp.  These campouts provide lots of fun for the Scouts as well as providing an opportunity for them to practice their outdoor skills.

We also participate actively in various service projects each year, such as Scouting for Food.  Our Scouts take part in many different civic and patriotic ceremonies as well.  We have an aluminum can recycling bin located for community use and we also recycle ink jet cartridges.

Each scout is actively encouraged to achieve Rank advancement through learning new skills such as building a campfire, handling a knife, cooking, swimming and first aid.  Each scout is encouraged to participate in the Merit Badge program.  The Merit Badge program provides an opportunity for Scouts to learn about all sorts of subjects, from Fishing to Astronomy, from Leathercraft to Radio Science,  from Citizenship to Camping,  and so on.  Over 120 different Badges are currently available.  Scouts will also learn leadership skills  through holding positions such as Patrol Leader or Assistant Patrol Leader.

Scouting is about encouraging our young men to become honorable men and valuable leaders in our community and country.  And it’s about having FUN too!  If you would like to find out what Scouting is all about, we encourage you to come by and visit us during one of our meetings.  All boys between the age of 11 and 18 are welcome.  We also welcome new adult leaders and merit badge counselors as well.

Our current Scoutmasters are:
Gary Creamer, Scoutmaster
Ron Griggs, Asst. Scoutmaster
Ronald Mills, Asst. Scoutmaster
Greg Bowen, Asst. Scoutmaster
John Sadler, Asst. Scoutmaster
